OUR HISTORY:
Way back in 1997, Tracii Vann and Jonathan Huckabee were busy building websites for local businesses in and around Perth, Western Australia.

Over time they kept hearing the same things from clients that "It's very difficult to find anything local online", so they looked around and felt they could do something about improving the local Internet.

They eventually decided that they would build their own local ALTERNATIVE Internet information and web directory service, not only for business clients, but also for local people in and around Perth, Western Australia.

It took more than a few months of planning and building throughout 1999, in between building websites for clients, to get their Streets of Perth directory "officially" online in early 2000. (Though in reality, locals were already using the unfinished directory nearer the end of 1999 once pages had been discovered by major search engines like Google)

Overall, the site was designed to be really easy to use, fast, friendly and full of useful everyday links for your average everyday person. Content focused only on website links and did not include phone numbers and addresses - mainly as most of the "other" directories out there had a lot of dead phone numbers and inaccurate addresses.

By providing only links directly to business websites, out dated contact details would not be a problem, as most business owners kept contact information updated on their websites.

Over time, the Streets of Perth directory grew in traffic and popularity, reaching over 1.2 million visits a year early in 2002. During this time, web surfers from other Australian states had been emailing and asking if Streets were going to build a local directory for their area.

So finally, in mid 2002 they incorporated into The Streets Network Pty Ltd, with a little funding from family and friends. The two founders then began building portals for other cities across Australia, and so it has continued with the company now opening up directories in the USA.

These days Jonathan is still at the forefront of The Streets Network, while Tracii has started her own web marketing business up in the Pilbara region of WA.
